I understand that outlook express is a client for handeling pop 3 e mails. If that is incorrect please correct me. My real question is what free programs work well with outlook? I currentily use juno for sending and recieveing e mails but it seems to be becomeing more unreliable with each passing day. I had to wait until this afternoon to get my mail and this just won't do. So what free e mail programs work with outlook? Is outlook hard to use and configure? Thanks. Nem

Are you sure your problem is with Juno, not Outlook?

I, personally, find Outlook more confusing than Outlook express. But, it's doable.

Firstly Nem Outlook and Outlook express are 2 different programs though from what I can tell they do pretty much the same things. I think Outlook express is a slightly more basic version of Outlook though really, how complex do things need to get in order to download and read emails? lol.

If you have Windows XP, and I believe that you do, then you'll already have Outlook express on the machine as it comes as standard. You can also get a free spell checker for it from JFWlite which works really well and is easy to install.

Outlook express is a nice enough program. I've been using it for years.

Good luck with it.

Thanks. Dan.

Nem, hotmail works with outlook expres, as does all the free email servers to my knoledge, you could probably set up your juno email to go through outloook express too? we'll play with it on skype. gmail and yahoo will also work.

I think, given the description of the problem, that it lies with the pop3 server of the provider or the software client that might act as a layer between that and Outlook Express, rather than with OE itself. The OE client simply accesses and retrieves messages from the pop3 server, I believe the delay is caused rather by the messages being made availible in the pop3 server, which would be the fault of the service provider. I've never had issues with Time Warner Cable, for instance, using my client. That being said, sure, Outlook works fine, it's really just a more bulky version of Outlook Express with added features, such as calendar, meeting requests and appointments and such. I'm pretty sure the codebase is more or less the same and I would not expect Outlook to remedy your problems with the late message delivery.
I'd look into an alternative provider or write them and ask why the messages were so delayed or see if it's just a one-time thing, or try and install or update the software that allows your OE to access the pop3 server. If you look at Outlook Express pop3 Juno, on Google you'll probably find detailed descriptions of configurations and such, I had no issues. I'd recommend GMail too. It's a pain to set up but I've heard pop3 access is possible and works well, but I haven't done it myself, mind you.
Best of luck.

I have seen the same problem with Juno with a few others. As of now, if you didn't have a hot mail account intill recently then it will cost you to use either outllok or outlook express with hotmail.
I have never had a problem with my ISP's emails and Outlook. Yeah outlook has more bells and whistles than OE. Outlook is more for the professionals, but can be set up and modified to work with JAWS.

I should explain myself a little better. Dan is right, I do have outlook express already installed on my computer. Generally, Juno already does what outlook does, meaning that I can download e mail from their server directily to my computer. Juno, however, has been slow to download sometimes not downloading at all. I went to the website looking for the latest version of juno. From what I understand it is juno8.0 but on the site the company only advertizes 5.33. I am also getting these strange e mails containing strange text only. Junkmail really and I think it's time for a new e mail address. I knew that hotmail was chargeing for use with OE now that's why I didn't look there. As far as the configuration of OE, will the pop 3 e mail providers such as the aboved mentioned have that information posted somewhere? Thanks for all your replies so far.

It should be easy enough to get the pop3 information for any email account you get Nem. Indeed if you get an insight email address then I can even give you that information as Shea and I both have email addresses through them.

Good luck.

Dan.
